The streets are most definitely not the place you want to be during a crisis or riot. The streets can become very unsafe very quickly when people are trying to find supplies and law and order is trying to deal with a natural disaster at the same time.
Being outside requires constant vigilance, and the greatest survival advice is to stay off the streets. This holds true for women in particular. You should have enough food and water to last you several days indoors if you’ve done your homework.

But if you must leave the house, remember the advice listed below.

1. Reduce hazards.

Know where you’re going, arrive quickly, and depart quickly. You shouldn’t park your car a block from the mall right now merely to get some exercise. Get the task done swiftly, know your way around, and then get home.

Always try to carry a map with you if you’re in a new region. Avoid areas where there have been recent acts of violence. There will always be those places that are riskier.

Be careful not to carry too much cash or to wear jewelry. Always dress in appropriate running shoes so you can escape if things go south. It is preferable to use intersections for crosswalks rather than solitary, isolated underpasses.

Go into the closest store and ask for assistance or phone the police if you feel like someone is following you. If there are no stores nearby, proceed to the nearest police station or shopping center, where there will be protection and assistance available.

2. Be assured.

Even when you’re shaking in your boots, always present yourself as bold and confident. Criminals frequently seek for easy targets and want to commit crimes of opportunity so they can escape with simple prey.

They won’t choose to attack a man who seems like Chuck Norris or a woman who looks like she’ll put up a fight. Throw your pocketbook or wallet on the ground if you are cornered and the thieves ask to take your possessions.
You will now have a chance to go away. Don’t fight or act violently. Things can get really violent since they might have a knife or a gun.

3. Steer clear of youth gangs.

It’s better to stay away from young people in groups who appear to be idling or gathering randomly. They might be idle or up to mischief of some sort. Crimes can quickly spiral out of control when a mob mentality takes hold.

Young people who were acting in groups have committed numerous heinous crimes, including murder. Several of them had no idea why they had acted that way before being caught. Everyone loses control when there is an unhealthy amount of energy present. Hence, avoid putting oneself in such circumstances.

4. Keep a weapon or stun gun on you.

In a fight, having a weapon gives you an advantage. It might be a weapon, stun gun, pepper spray, a tactical knife, etc. To increase your chances of success, it is best to always carry one with you.

Learn to use your carry, and practice frequently to become accurate and swift with the draw. Adrenaline will be surging through you in a high-stress situation, impairing your ability to move around. When you’ve had enough practice, your preparation will take over and save the day.

5. Face approaching traffic at all times

While crossing a road, it’s better to do so facing the direction of travel. This will stop kidnappings, snatch thefts, etc.

Keep in mind this advice while you are walking down the street. Crime can happen at any moment, even in times of peace. Every day there are casualties. Making sure you’re not one of them requires being vigilant and observant. Keep focused.
